Finding great markets for your writing can be a tiring business. This post lists paying markets for Travel Writers.

As always please visit each site for full information and to check the latest guidelines before submission.

Transitions Abroad

For publication in Transitions Abroad’s website and our webzine (TAzine), payment is on acceptance, ranging from $50 to $150 (the average payment is $100) based upon how much traffic we believe the submission will generate over time from our audience while following our editorial guidelines. Payment for first-time submissions is made via check or PayPal.

Matador Network

Standard payment is $25, payable via PayPal, upon publication. Higher fees (typically $40-$60) may be negotiated for special projects or in-depth features.

Wanderlust Magazine

Current rates (as of 01/06/10) for most features are £220 per 1,000 published words. Unless otherwise agreed, the fee is based on printed, not submitted, words. Fact pages are paid at £90 per page (approx 750 words) pro-rated. Fees for other sections (including Dispatches and interviews) are set per-article rates, agreed on commissioning.

Travel Thru History

We offer our writers a modest honorarium for articles we publish. Stories of 500 to 900 words – $10; 1000 words or more – $15; Features – $25.

TheExpeditioner.com

At this time we are able to offer $30 per article, payable upon publication, and we will also include an author bio at the bottom of the piece. Our articles tend to be first-person narratives in the range of 1,100 – 1,300 words, but this is only a suggestion and not a rule. We only require that your piece be interesting, informative and inspiring for future travelers.

2camels

For each article you submit that we publish, we’ll pay you USD $20. Payment is made with 48 hours of publication via Paypal. Our articles are usually between 500 and 1,000 words in length, although we do make exceptions. We love to receive accompanying photos but your words is what 2camels is all about.

VERGE MAGAZINE

First-time contributors are paid a rate of $0.10 (CAD) per word. This rate includes payment for any photos that accompany your piece. Regular contributors may earn more, but this must be pre-negotiated before
a story is assigned. Payment, in Canadian dollars, is mailed within 45 days following the release date of
the issue in which the material appears.

GoNOMAD.com

Payment is made upon publication. GoNOMAD can offer writers links to their personal or business websites and include writer’s email addresses so that readers can provide feedback to you. GoNOMAD pays $25 for features that are sent to us with good photos, captions and the word file. Photos are important and should be included with your submission. We do not pay for book excerpts or reprints, but are happy to review them (1500 words maximum).

EscapeArtist.com

We prefer articles that are at least 1,500 to 3,000 words in length

everywheremag

Published contributors get paid and receive a free subscription.

Go World Travel

Payment: We purchase non-exclusive online rights. Payment is $30 per story/photo essay upon publication.

I will be updating this post in the future so if you have any more to add to the list please leave a comment below.
